The Bafana Bafana had a disappointing start but there is still time for their fortunes to change.
Things are not going well for the South Africa in the Africa Cup of Nations. The team is the bookies fourth favourite to win and put in a very poor opening display.
Favourites to win the competition are the Ivory Coast with odds of 7/4, they are followed by Ghana (13/2) and Nigeria (9/1) before South Africa comes in at (14/1).
The Bafana Bafana trainer, Gordon Igesund, was highly critical of the side after their 0-0 draw with Cape Verde and has questioned the side’s ability to deal with the pressure the competition brings.
Very few opportunities were created by the team against the side which comes from the smallest country in the competition and at one point they were very close to loosing the game.
After the game Igesund said that “not too many of my players came to the party in the first half, which was a total waste of time. We weren’t much better in the second.” He went on to say that some of the players froze when the whistle blew and many “lost their nerve.”
South Africa hasn’t won a match in the competition since 2004; however, they still have the rest of the tournament to prove themselves and please their fans.
