A group of rugby fans are celebrating after winning R600,000 on a bet last weekend.
Last weekend 50 South African rugby fans were not only celebrating the victories of the Bulls and the Stormers, but also their own massive pay-off from the leading sports betting website Bet.co.za.
The punters had placed a multiple bet which required four predictions across different games in the fifth round of the 2012 Super Rugby competition to be fulfilled. They won the bet and earned a massive amount of money.
Sedley Barr, the chief bookmaker at Bet.co.za said that the bet only had a 1% chance of coming true. That meant that the 50 people who bet a total of just R6,000 are now enjoying winnings of around R600,000. Barr said that it was “similar to winning the lottery in the sports betting world!”
They were betting that:
1. The Sharks would score first with a try against the Waratahs 2. The Bulls would score first through a penalty against the Reds 3. The Stormers would score first with a try again the Lions 4. That the Cheetahs would win or lose by no more than 16.5 points against the Crusaders.
When all four of these conditions came true there was mass excitement among the winners and other members of the public.
Barr said that the biggest winner bet R700 and won R70,000, another bet R500 and took home R50,000 whilst a number of people bet R200 or less but are all enjoying their winnings of 100 times the bet. Barr also pointed out that Bet.co.za takes great pride in customer service and a fast payout of winnings.
All of the winners have reported receiving their winnings and all seem truly excited. Whilst some are just expressing surprise at their good fortune, others are already planning on how to spend the money on things like a trip to a spa with their wives.
