South Africa’s City of Sun and Casino Fun

South Africa’s Sun City offers casino fans the opportunity to enjoy a spot of gambling amid the splendour of a world-class resort

There’s plenty of tourist hotspots around the world that claim to offer all things to all men, but surely one of the greatest resorts has to be Sun City in South Africa.

City is definitely the operative word, as this resort is more of a mini-city than a run of the mill holiday destination. Just three hours from Johannesburg, it offers fun, excitement, entertainment and restorative opportunities in equal measures.

Thanks to regulated gambling, casino fans across the world gather at the resort’s entertainment centres to sample the delights of numerous casino games and hundreds of different slot machines. Jungle Casino alone boasts over 250 slot machines and the Sun City Hotel casino has over 330. The casinos are programmed to function on a smartcard cashless system and have a bureau which accepts major international currencies. There is even a School of Gambling to provide some handy hints and tips for those wanting to brush up on their gaming skills.

Thrill seekers will love the Valley of the Waves water park, which boasts advanced technical features such as a mechanically generated wave pool and man-made beach. For a more relaxing pursuit, there are two international-standard 18-hole golf courses, the Gary Player Country Club and the Lost City Golf Course, both designed by the legendary South African Golfer, Gary Player. Players should take note of the 38 crocodiles that nestle in water feature of the 13th hole!

Further excitement can be found near the resort, at the Pilanesberg National Park; 55, 000 hectares of land where lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino can all be seen untamed and in their natural habitat.
