The leading UK bookmaker, William Hill, has revealed that it is to become the title sponsor for the Scottish Cup following a new deal with the Scottish Football Association. The three year contract will see the organisation rebranded as the William Hill Scottish Club – a move which will allow the company to advertise a range of products to Scottish enthusiasts throughout the country. Boasting over 300 betting shops throughout the country, the organisation now operates a total of more than 2,360 retail facilities in the UK and Ireland at large. The £3 million contract will see the firm take over from Tennets Lager whose 8 year deal with the Cup came to an end in 2007.
Representatives of the renowned firm, meanwhile, said that it was “fitting for the most established” bookmaker to work in collaboration with the “the oldest association trophy in world football”. He went on to say that William Hill considered it “an honour” to be able to put its name to the Cup. Stewart Roger, Scottish Football Association CEO, echoed Hill’s enthusiasm and said that the body was “proud to have a leading brand like William Hill as the sponsor of the Scottish Cup for the next three seasons." “We can now look forward to another exciting season ahead", he concluded as the countdown to the first round gets underway.
