Online bingo winner will spend her winning money on fertility treatment

A British woman who won £100,000 playing online bingo thinks of using the money to finance private IVF treatment

Leanne Jennings, 28, was extremely excited when she saw the results of bingo draw on her computer screen. She said: “We thought we could not have a child so this means the world to us. If I had a choice between having a baby and winning the lottery, I would choose a baby”. Leanne, who lives in South London, suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome. As a result she cannot ovulate in a natural way and that has led her in the past to eight miscarriages.

The British National Health Service had refused in the past to give Leanne IVF because she is already a mother to a child, though her recent bingo winning means she can now afford private treatment. She revealed: “When I used to ask my 10-year-old son Joey what he wanted for Christmas, he would say a brother or a sister. About six weeks ago, I won £1,280 on online bingo. To us that was a lot of money and we cleared some debts. I never thought I would win again”.

The couple is also planning to use the money to put down a deposit on a three-bedroom house. Leanne said: “We never thought we would be able to own a house. My dream would be to live on a farm.” She added: “After telling Joey I had won, he said, ‘Can I have £10?’ Now, when he knows the amount, that amount has risen to £35 for a computer game.”

Leanne’s husband Paul, 28, who works as a bike mechanic for a pizza delivery company, thinks of buying a stunt bike and replacing their 13 years old Fiat Punto. Leanne said: “It is a lot of money – and it will change our lives.”
